C’est le cinéaste Quentin Tarantino qui recevra le 5e Prix Lumière lors du festival Lumière, qui se déroulera à Lyon et dans le Grand Lyon du lundi 14 au dimanche 20 octobre 2013. Il succèdera à Clint Eastwood, Milos Forman, Gérard Depardieu et Ken Loach.
Décerné par Bertrand Tavernier, Thierry Frémaux et l’équipe de l’Institut Lumière, le Prix Lumière est attribué à Quentin Tarantino pour l’ensemble de sa carrière, pour sa cinéphilie irradiante, pour les hommages rendus à l’intérieur même ses films à la toute la mythologie du septième art (cinéastes, actrices, acteurs, musiciens, etc.), et la façon dont il dit tout le temps : « VIVE LE CINEMA ! ».
Agé de 50 ans, auteur de huit longs métrages, d’une quinzaine de scénario, d’épisodes télé et vainqueur de la Palme d’or à Cannes pour Pulp Fiction en 1994, Quentin Tarantino est réalisateur, scénariste, producteur et acteur. Toute son oeuvre n’a cessé de rassembler le public et la critique : Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill : Volume 1, Kill Bill : Volume 2, Boulevard de la mort, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained sont tous devenus des standards de la cinéphilie mondiale.
Alors que toute part les spectateurs mondiaux connaissent par coeur son cinéma, Tarantino, qui vient de connaître son plus grand succès public avec Django Unchained, reste un cinéaste à l’oeuvre personnelle, singulière, brillante et mystérieuse.
La remise du Prix Lumière aura lieu à l’Amphithéâtre du Centre de Congrès de Lyon le vendredi 18 octobre devant 3 000 personnes.

Selected by Bertrand Tavernier, Thierry Frémaux and the team from the Institut Lumière, the Lumière Award will be presented to Quentin Tarantino for his entire film career, for his radiant passion for the cinema, for the tributes paid even within his films to the whole mythology of cinema (filmmakers, actresses, actors, musicians, etc..), and for the way he often exclaims, «VIVE LE CINEMA!».
At age 50, Quentin Tarantino is the author of eight feature films, some 15 screenplays, television episodes, and winner of the Palme d’Or for Pulp Fiction in 1994. A director, screenwriter, producer and actor, he has never stopped bringing back audiences and critics for more; Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill: Volume 1, Kill Bill: Volume 2, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, and Django Unchained have all become standards of international cinephilia.
Although worldwide audiences know his films by heart, Tarantino, who is just coming off a great success with Django Unchained, remains a filmmaker whose work is personal, unique, brilliant, and mysterious. The Lumière Award ceremony will be held at the Amphitheatre of the Lyon Convention Centre on Friday, October 18, before an audience of 3,000.
