The renowned Milan Image Art Fair will be organising MIA&D Fair, the first photography, video and design art fair at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands from 24 – 26 October 2014. Conceived in 2011 by Fabio Castelli, MIA Fair is set to bring art gallerists, artists, art and design collectors along with photography enthusiasts from around the world to witness a wealth of contemporary art in the form of photography, video and design – a unique element that distinguishes MIA&D Fair from other art fairs in Singapore. The fair, under the Patronage of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Institute of Culture, will be a platform for new encounters and cultural exchanges on photography, video and design between Asia and Western countries. Following the success of the MIA Fair Milan editions, the fair in Singapore will include curatorial sections such as the MIA Proposal section, containing the works of artists who exhibit without the support of galleries selected by the MIA&D Fair curators and the Mekong curatorial platform with artists coming from Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.
The Design Section of MIA&D Fair Singapore will showcase collectible furniture and objects from several galleries, proposing a new dialogue between design and photography, both expressions of a deep contemporary artistic research.
“Singapore has established itself as the central arts hub in Asia Pacific and is known as the key connector for business across Asian cultures, making it the perfect location for our first-‐ ever overseas exhibition,” says Fabio Castelli, Founder and Director of MIA&D Fair. “We are broadening the exposure of talented artists to Asia, with the concept of a unique art fair that has never been showcased before in Singapore. We expect art enthusiasts and collectors will be delighted with this new format.”
“With a strong focus on promoting education in collecting photography and design, MIA&D Fair provides a special platform for young and aspiring art collectors. We also help drive encounters among all appreciators in this sector – artists, galleries, designers, critics, publishers, collectors and amateurs, and propose a unique way of visiting an art fair that emphasizes the pleasure of discovering quality, novelty and innovation.” Lorenza Castelli, Organization Director of MIA&D Fair adds.
The fair, which successfully drew in a total of 20,000 visitors this year in Milan, will be the internationally acclaimed event which will create an unrivalled platform for everyone to enjoy. Expected to attract up to 25,000 visitors, the MIA&D Fair Singapore 2014 will occupy a sprawling 3,500 square meters of exhibition space at Marina Bay Sands.
